Welcome to ''Ben Sturge Guitar and Ukulele''...
Hello, My name is Ben Sturge and I am an experienced Peripatetic Guitar and Ukulele Tutor and Full Member of The Registry of Guitar Tutors (RGT), teaching students of all ages in a range of different musical styles.
I teach Electric and Acoustic 6 & 12 string both Lead and Rhythm and I offer tutoring in Music Theory including helping students in composing and arranging songs or instrumentals and developing modal playing.
I also teach Tenor Ukulele as an introduction to the Guitar for my younger students.
I teach Privately from my own studio in Bexley or travel to Private students directly, run various Guitar Clubs at local Primary Schools and teach from several Music Shops in the South East. My students are based all over South East London and Kent including Bexley, Bexleyheath, Bromley, Eltham, Sidcup, Dartford, Brockley, Crayford and Blackheath.
The styles I teach are Blues, Rock, Metal, Latin Rock, Country, Pop and basic Jazz and Funk. I also teach Popular Music Theory.
I have gained Distinctions in both Advanced Practical and Written examinations in Acoustic and Electric guitar playing and Music Theory with these qualifications being assessed and awarded by The University of West London and administered by LCM (London College of Music). I am also a Full Member of RGT (The Registry of Guitar Tutors)
I bespoke and tailor my lessons to each individual student, keeping the 'fun' element by building confidence, helping students with improvising and learning any songs they would like to learn, breaking these songs down so that the student can grasp each section with tenacity. I introduce simple melodies, harmony, scales, arpeggios, modal playing and chords and teach students how these essential techniques and elements are applied in everyday music from Rock to Funk to modern day pop...etc
This style of teaching helps steer my students in the direction to eventually becoming self sufficient.
I have the enjoyment of teaching students of all ages and levels from South East London and Kent and my belief is that with time and patience, anyone can learn to play a musical instrument !.........
"Learning to play the guitar has given me a focus, structure and most of all many hours of fun over the years. It can be very satisfying learning a song or even a few chords so you can make your own songs or improvise your existing favourites..... The great thing about music is that we are all students so no matter what level you are, the learning never stops !"
